I have great pleasure in welcoming you to the web site of The Flying Fox Marathon 2017, which is to be held on Sunday 28th May 2017 and is organized by Stone Master Marathoners. Three years ago, with the best of intentions, I made it very clear that the FFM 2014 would be a one off celebration of Marathon running at Stone... but I weakened and here we are preparing for next year.

Why are we hosting another Road Marathon, with all the work that it entails? The event was a great success financially which, in no small way, was due to the support we received from our main sponsor, AFFORD Rent-a-Car. Other businesses and individuals contributed and as a result we were able to donate £750 to Katharine House Hospice in Stafford, £150 to Dougie Mac Hospice in Stoke-on-Trent and £1000 to Gingerbread in Stoke-on-Trent. Equally important to our club, was the sense of common purpose that the event created amongst our members.

As Race Organiser and a keen Marathon runner, I've again gathered together a strong team of runners to provide all the key elements that I hope you look for in a Marathon. The route is one lap, through some of the most unspoilt and scenic countryside in Staffordshire (and a little of Shropshire, too!). The whole course is run on quiet, almost traffic free, country lanes over a gently undulating landscape – well OK, I'll come clean! There is a steady pull at the half way point which rewards you with some stunning views of the Welsh Mountains and the local windmill.

The course has been officially measured to ensure its accuracy and on your successful return to Knighton Social Club, you'll receive a great goodie bag c/w with a technical T shirt, a quality medal, a bottle of Flying Fox beer and other giveaways. The race will be run under UKA rules, licence applied for.
